Ebola: latest verified update and sources

CDC situation update, published 22 October, counts through 21 October: DR Congo 9,704 confirmed cases and 4,687 confirmed deaths; Kenya nine and one; Nigeria one and zero. These are cumulative reports, not active-case counts. Suspected cases are excluded; reporting is incomplete. Deaths are within cases and must not be added to them.

WHO Nigeria and Nigeria’s health ministry, 20 October: one imported case and 44 initially identified contacts. A contact is not a confirmed infection. The patient’s travel history does not establish the location of infection; investigation was ongoing. CDC reports no active cases in Uganda in its 22 October update.

WHO vaccine Q&A, 9 September and WHO outbreak report, 8 October: no vaccine is licensed specifically for Bundibugyo disease and no approved specific treatment is available. Research continues. Ervebo protects against a different Ebola virus; protection against Bundibugyo in humans is unproven. WHO’s fact sheet explains that supportive care can improve survival.

CDC returning-traveler guidance, 11 September: call health services if ill after possible exposure and explain the exposure before arriving. Follow local health authorities.

WHO, 22 October: DR Congo–South Sudan border preparedness. Africa CDC, 21 October: ministerial talks planned for 28 October; the meeting is still in the future as of this update.

Natural Earth v5.1.2 provides the country polygons. Highlighted countries are selected locations mentioned in current reporting, not a risk heatmap or nationwide infection coverage. No travel routes are drawn. The filament and other models are schematic.
